- Taught a new MBA elective on Competitive Strategy for Market Entry in Spring 2013.
- Presented on “Funding Strategies for Disruptive Innovation” on January 11th at the University of Pittsburgh conference on Leading Organizations to Innovate Smarter.
- Inducted as a Fellow of the University of Strasbourg (France) Institute for Advanced Study, which strives to encourage and support research in science and humanities at the highest level by bringing together local and foreign scholars from diverse disciplines and fostering interactions among researchers and with the wider community of the university.
- Awarded the 2012 IDEA Foundational Paper Award by the Entrepreneurship Division at the Academy of Management honoring a paper that has powerfully and positively changed the conversation in the field of entrepreneurship for at least a decade, for my article “Survival of the Fittest: Entrepreneurial Human Capital and the Persistence of Underperforming Firms” published in Administrative Science Quarterly in 1997 and coauthored with J. Gimeno, A. Cooper, and C. Woo.
- Former Ph.D. student Arkadiy Sakhartov accepted a tenure track faculty appointment at Wharton Business School, beginning July 2012.
- Papers recently accepted for publication include
- “Entrepreneurial entry thresholds” (with B. McCann) at Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. It identifies the entrepreneurial characteristics determining the expected performance required to induce entry.
- “Rationalizing organizational change: A need for comparative testing” (with A. Sakhartov) at Organization Science. It considers the importance of comparatively testing alternative theories. Simulation is used to compare Behavioral Theory and Rational Choice.
- Paper on Determinants of Initial Size in Entrepreneurial Ventures (with Francesca Mellilo and Frederic Delmar) was selected for Best Paper Proceedings in the 2012 Academy of Management Meetings (Boston)
- Presented a keynote address, titled “Resource Redeployability and Corporate Strategy” at the 8th annual conference of the European Network on the Economics of the Firm in Strasbourg France on 7-8 September 2011.
